Rating System Our rating system is intended to guide our playgoers in their decisions to attend our productions. It is not flawless. We recognize that you have the burden of choice. We encourage you to respond to us with intelligent suggestions regarding the theatre attractions that you enjoy at the Bastrop Opera House. Plays are selected by the Bastrop Opera House Executive Director and/or the director of a particular play. Ultimate responsibility for the production offered lies with the play's director. The Executive Director oversees that production. Plays are chosen for entertainment value (a broad canvas is allowed), play content (theme, ideas, lessons, historical value), technical capabilities, cast availability, and a variety of enrichment objectives. Casts are chosen by the director of the piece. At no time is the purpose of our programming intended to insult, embarrass, or offend our playgoers! When you see one or more of these letters in printed publicity or electronic systems, this is what we are trying to communicate: G --- General: Theatrical production contains generally accepted material; however, a mystery might contain a murder which is not the essence of the material presented. Y --- Youth: Theatrical production contains generally accepted material for young audiences; however, the production might address issues that are not overly simplified. A --- Adult: Theatrical production contains language, situations, or ideas that some playgoers might find uncomfortable. R --- Restricted: Theatrical production contains very sensitive material in some form that might be found objectionable by some playgoers. W --- Warning: Appears alone or coupled with another letter to alert audience to a particular aspect of the theatrical production. Alone, a "Warning" might signify a piece is performed without intermission, an audience participation event, an unusually long running time, foreign language productions, or an unusual production staging. When coupled with another rating, it is intended to enhance that rating. Y/W suggests a young audience program with a long running time, for instance. Playgoers are encouraged to ask about any of the ratings. If necessary, a written disclaimer will accompany the rating. ***************************
